The sesame seeds have numerous medical properties which have been recognized by the ancient Egyptians for over 5,000 years.
Various scientists consider these seeds to be powerful painkillers which can treat knee osteoarthritis (OA). Osteoarthritis of the knee is a degenerative joint disease, located in the knee, which causes loss of motion, pain, swelling, disfigured cartilage and abnormal bone growth.
According to the latest research, the sesame seeds are more successful in treating OA than analgesic drugs.
Sesame Seeds Are More Effective in Treating Knee Osteoarthritis than Tylenol
A recent research, made at Tabriz University in Iran, studied the effects of the sesame seeds on the symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee. These symptoms include swelling, pain, changes in the joint shape and loss of motion.
The researchers examined 50 patients which were divided into two groups. The first group received a standard medical therapy.
This group consumed 500 milligrams of Tylenol, a painkiller prescribed for OA, twice a day, as well as 500 milligrams of glucosamine once a day.
The second group, apart from the standard therapy, received 40 grams, or about 4 tablespoons, of sesame seeds, on a daily basis.
After two months, the researchers compared the pain sensitivity of these two groups. The patients who consumed sesame seeds had a significant reduction in the level of pain, which was not the case in the other group.
Even though the sesame seeds cannot replace the OA medications completely, the study concluded that these seeds are a powerful therapy for this condition.
If you suffer from knee osteoarthritis, you should consume raw and organic sesame seeds. These seeds will provide you with numerous health benefits.
